Rights and Responsibilities
It is important to recognize that individuals with disabilities have specific rights afforded to them. These rights are outlined in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and it’s Amendment Act in 2008, and the Fair Housing Act.
Depending on the circumstances, certain aspects of these laws require public and private institutions of higher education to take specific actions towards providing equal access for students with disabilities. These responsibilities are also guided by the rights afforded to to the institution by the aforementioned laws.
