Requesting Exam Accommodations
Yale College Students
To request exam accommodations during the regular academic year, follow these steps:
- Request accommodations for the first-time or renew accommodation requests each term to receive an accommodation letter.
- Forward your accommodation letter to your faculty and Residential College Dean.
- Discuss your testing accommodations with your instructors. Your instructors should coordinate and provide you your accommodations whenever possible.
- If your instructor is unable to proctor your exam, SAS may be able to assist with proctoring exams held between 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday. You may submit a Testing Room Request form to take the exam on the same date and at the same time as the class at the SAS office in Watson.
* Please work directly with your instructor regarding testing accommodations for quizzes, night exams and/or make-up exams.
* For exams that need to be proctored at the SAS Office, please submit your forms in the beginning of the term (generally, once schedules are sealed). If there are any changes in exam schedule, please notify sasexams@yale.edu.
Students requesting exam accommodations must:
- Be registered with SAS.
- Be approved to receive exam accommodations.
- Deliver accommodation letters to faculty and dean.
- Speak with each of your instructors regarding the coordination of your testing accommodations.
- Only submit Testing Room Request forms for exams that must to be proctored at the SAS office.
* Please work directly with your instructor regarding testing accommodations for quizzes, night exams and/or make-up exams.
Things to Remember
- You must submit your Testing Room Request forms at least one full week (7 days) in advance of an exam.
- Exams must overlap with the date and time scheduled for the class; if this is not possible, students must work with their Residential College Dean and faculty member to rearrange.
- Accommodation letters must be given to faculty prior to receiving academic accommodations.
- For exams during finals week, Testing Room Request forms must be submitted by the Monday of the last week of classes. If received after this date, SAS may not be able to proctor your exam.
- For final exam blocks ONLY, evening exams (typically starting at 7 p.m.) begin at 5:00 p.m.
- SAS cannot proctor exams during designated reading periods.
Placement Exams
Students with documented disabilities may request accommodations for placement testing through SAS. Please complete our Accommodation Request form and upload documentation at least two weeks in advance of the exam. SAS will review and contact you.
Please note that these requests for accommodations apply to the placement testing period alone. To request for accommodations for ongoing accessibility arrangements, students should submit a request and meet with SAS before the start of the semester.
