NCCPA Exam Accommodations Guide

A Step-by-Step Guide for Yale Students

If you currently receive exam accommodations through Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and plan to request accommodations for the NCCPA PANCE or PANRE, it’s important to know that you’ll need updated medical documentation that meets NCCPA’s national standards.

This process can take time, so start early! Here’s what you need to know:

1. Start Early

You won’t be able to schedule your NCCPA exam until your accommodation request has been fully reviewed and approved.

Since medical documentation must meet specific standards and often requires an appointment (or several), we recommend starting this process at least 3–4 months before your anticipated test date.

2. Reach Out to Your Provider

You’ll need a letter from a qualified medical provider who is actively treating you and has knowledge of your diagnosis and how it impacts your ability to test.
If you’re receiving care through Yale Health or Yale Mental Health & Counseling, we recommend scheduling an appointment with your current provider.

Use  or call Yale Health Member Services for scheduling support. Be clear when booking: Tell them you’ll need formal documentation for NCCPA accommodations—this may require multiple visits and additional paperwork MyChart

3. What the Provider Letter Must Include

The documentation must be on letterhead and include the following key details, according to NCCPA’s official policies (PDF)

  • - Provider information: name, credentials, contact info, and signature
    - Diagnosis: clearly stated and supported by recent assessment (within 12 months)
    - Functional limitations: how your condition impacts test-taking and daily functioning
    - Assessment details: testing/evaluation tools used, results, and interpretation
    - Requested accommodations: e.g., extra time, frequent breaks, separate room, etc.
    - Rationale: why each accommodation is necessary
    - Duration: whether your condition is chronic, stable, or subject to change

4. Submit Your Request to NCCPA

Once your documentation is ready, go to the NCCPA Exam Accommodations page

  • - Complete the online Exam Accommodations Request Form (as part of the exam application)
    - Upload your medical documentation
    - Optionally include documentation of prior accommodations at Yale (you can request this from SAS)

Note: Prior accommodations help support your request but do not guarantee approval.

5. How SAS Can Help

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)  is here to support you through this process. We can:

  • - Provide a template letter or documentation checklist for your provider
    - Answer questions about NCCPA’s documentation requirements
    - Offer guidance on timing

We want this process to feel manageable, not overwhelming. Let us know if you’d like to set up a planning meeting—we’re happy to walk you through the steps.
