Yale’s Office of LGBTQ Resources is now the Yale LGBTQ Center

Thursday, July 4, 2024

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Amidst the vibrant nationwide celebrations of Pride Month, we are proud to announce that Yale’s Office of LGBTQ Resources is now the Yale LGBTQ Center. This landmark change occurs 55 years after a pioneering group of Yale students convened their first sexuality discussion group, igniting the spark of LGBTQ advocacy and community building at Yale in the wake of the historic Stonewall Uprising.

By adopting a community center model, Yale aligns itself with over 375 LGBTQ centers and organizations within the international Centerlink network. This change is a strong affirmation of our commitment to expand our support for the LGBTQ community and combat rising anti-LGBTQ sentiments and bias.

Our new name not only honors the legacy of those who fought for LGBTQ visibility and rights, but also strengthens our resolve to continue to foster an inclusive, supportive environment for all members of the Yale community, building on the work of the students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have championed queer and trans issues over many years.

As the Yale LGBTQ Center, we look forward to continuing our mission of community, education, and advocacy by providing loving, liberating, and life-giving programs and services that contribute to belonging at Yale.

Please update our name in any of your contacts, materials, and listings. If you are interested in more information about the Yale LGBTQ Center or would like to donate to the center or support its mission, please visit our newly redesigned website.

Warm regards,

Samuel Neil Byrd
Director, Yale LGBTQ Center
